Why Does My Vape Taste Burnt? How to Fix ItUpdated 24 days ago
A burnt taste while vaping is a sign something isn’t right. It’s usually caused by the coil inside your device overheating or your e-liquid not vapourising properly.
Why Does My Vape Taste Burnt?
A burnt taste can occur when the wick (usually made of cotton) in your vape coil is not properly saturated with e-liquid, causing it to burn when heated. This can happen for several reasons:
- Coil Is Burnt Out: Coils have a limited lifespan. If you’ve been using the same coil for a long time, it may have burnt out, causing a burnt flavour. Learn when to change your vape coil.
- High VG Liquid in a Low-Power Device: E-liquids with a high Vegetable Glycerin (VG) content are thicker and may not wick properly in low-power devices, causing dry hits and a burnt taste. Find out the best e-liquids to use with your device.
- Coils Not Primed Properly: When you install a new coil, it needs to be primed with e-liquid to saturate the cotton. Failing to do so can cause the cotton to burn. Read our guide to coil prep and care.
How to Fix a Burnt Taste:
- Replace the Coils: If your vape tastes burnt, replace the coils immediately. Refer to our Ultimate Guide to Vape Coils for step-by-step instructions.
- Use the Right E-Liquid: Choose an e-liquid with a suitable VG/PG ratio for your device. Check our Beginner’s Guide to E-Liquids.
- Prime Your Coils: Before using a new coil, soak it in e-liquid for a few minutes to prevent dry hits. Learn more about coil priming.
